Meet Police Staff Investigator Alice Harmsworth.
Alice joined the Bournemouth Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in January 2025 and is mid-way through her PSI training course.
She has a degree in sociology and criminology and previously worked for the NHS and in Witness Care. Alice made the move into investigations because she wanted a role with more variety and opportunities to progress her career.
Her training involves completion of a Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) 1 course and building a workplace portfolio. She is also learning new skills, such as interview training and securing of evidence.
“I like the buzz of the role and the variety it brings. I can come to work each day and not know what is going to happen on any shift. It is great to be part of a team of people who are all working hard to achieve the same thing – justice for victims and protecting the public.”
This is Police Staff Investigator Bella Relf.
Bella previously worked within the Force’s duties team for three years prior to training as a Police Staff Investigator in 2022.
It was working on the frontline and in an investigative role that attracted Bella to make the switch to become a Police Staff Investigator. She is already looking to progressing her career and undertaking her PIP2 qualification, which will enable her to work on more serious and complex investigations.

“I love helping people and knowing that the work I am involved in is making a difference to people’s lives. We meet people when they are often at their most vulnerable and it brings enormous job satisfaction when we find justice for victims and their families.”
